Women & Ads

For my final project, I plan on expanding my previous project from last semester. Last semester, I created an online zine about women and advertisements. I focused on a brief history of advertisements, the negative effects it has on me personally and to all women as a whole. My zine was more of an informal zine because I illustrated that offensive advertisements has been around since the beginning of the 20th century and I also illustrated modern ads that still have these offensive images towards women.

Advertising is what supports the media so it’s very important to educate women about its power and influence. Understanding the messages presented to us in advertising is an important skill; understanding the messages behind the ads is even more essential to have a balanced realistic view of one’s image in the world. I plan on having this zine be inspirational to women of all ages who can look at it realize that they are not alone and that they never have to be insecure about the way they are because of media and its false perception of beauty. I will interview four women; a five year old, an 18 year old, a 22 year old and a 47 year old. My interview questions will be based on research and I plan on having in depth material about how each person is affected by media. My target audience will be towards women of all ages and also to men who don’t understand the serious effects it has on women and society.
