Our Aim Is True: The Intertwining Message of Hip Hop and Punk Rock

My semester project is a comparative look at how the musical genres of hip-hop and punk rock are similar sociologically and also follows a similar historical timeline. This concept is one that I’ve wanted to work on for a couple of years now, ever since I first wrote a column about it for Brookdale, my prior school’s newspaper, the Stall.
The ultimate goal of this is to show that the predominant message that the two genres have is one that is, for the most part, similar, and that the only real difference between the two is that one is predominately preferred by white people and one is not and how in today’s society, that racial divide is becoming null and void.
I plan to completely rework the prior article, which I will publish onto my personal blog along with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation as well as a Spotify playlist of songs that exemplify the intertwining ideals between the two genres.
