Barbie - the perfect woman

                   For my project I want to talk about the affects barbie has on young girls and young adolescent girls. Young girls ages six to eight idolize barbie and older girls have anger against barbie because they realize she is unrealistic and they start to disfigure and damage the dolls. Surveys have showed that barbie dolls are among girls' first or second most favorite toys between ages 7-12. The disfigured barbie doll may represent girls view about their developing feminine self. 

Older girls are angry at barbie. When they were younger they wanted to be like barbie and thought that this was possible but when older adolescent girls display anger at barbie  which is shown by the torture and destruction of their  barbie.  Part of their anger is to do with the fact that their image of the perfect woman that they idolized has been stripped away along with their innocence and what has been the fundamental basis for their self esteem and feminism. 

For the visual part of my project I want to photograph scenes with barbie in them with her being shown how she makes young girls feel. showing her self conscious about her self being destructive, etc. I want to show Barbie in a way shes not normally seen or thought of. I will create mini scenes with cardboard and add other details.
