Journey to the Finish Line

As a beginner and trainee in my first half-marathon, the experience has not been what I've expected. When you first think about what it means to be running a 13.1 mile race, it's all about crossing the finish line. However, the more I train the more I realize that the actual race is probably the easiest part of the whole experience. No one ever talks about physical, mental and emotional obstacles that one has to overcome, and the sacrifices one has to make to get to that finish line.

In this community we all have our stories and experiences to share, as well as our runners of the past to guide us and motivate us. This is a blog where runners can share their stories, work on their training and learn about the sacrifices that other runners have made to reach their personal goals. This is our Journey to the Finish Line.
My goal for this blog is to create a destination and resource site for runners to share their experiences about training for their races, particularly half-marathons. The site will not only give runners the ability to share their experiences and have an open dialogue with other runners all over the United States or possibly around the world, but it also provides them resources they can use when training for their half-marathons. On this site runners can find articles about the proper attire to wear when running depending on weather conditions, the diet they should implement to maximize endurance and speed, and different schedules of how to prepare for their races. This blog will also provide insight into running clubs that runners can join, races that runners can sign up for, and charitable organizations that sponsor running events.

Runners like Carl Lewis, Jesse Owens, Linford Christie and Florence Griffith-Joyner are a few examples of runners who were put into the limelight by the media and controversial because of their achievements. My objective is to analyze these athletes and discuss what obstacles they had to overcome to be successful in an effort to motivate present runners to continue training so that they too can achieve their goals. Above all, this site is about overcoming obstacles and building a community of fellow runners.
