SHO Project
The final project developed for this class is a continued development of my final project first created in my Art and Woman last semester.
I wanted to concentrate around the social issues of female gamers. The culture surrounding video games is patriarchal, usually not targeting or sometimes simply ignoring female gamers. The gaming culture continues to maintain the ideas of “traditional” values; due to the anonymity of the Internet, people do not fear repercussions from authorities when they participate in harassment of other players. While developing the story I realized that to not totally alienate my viewers I should also create a counter-view from a male perspective too.
Originally, I intended to create a manga that would be printed and distributed in a book format. Over time, I decided to create illustrations that wouldn’t necessarily fit into the manga, but would still fit in the narrative of the story that I’m creating. The manga and illustrations were digitally rendered on the computer using Paint Tool Sai and Adobe Photoshop.
