Post 3 Wikileaks

Finding an alternate media that is not control by the big corporations is pretty hard. I know PBS, but I don't watch it that much. It's not as much of a problem for me since I am tuned off to pretty much everything as far as television and radio are concern. I get everything from the internet from news, entertainment, sports, etcera. Even with that I barely pay attention to what's going on unless it is headlined across every publications.

However a few years back one news source that caught my attention was Wikileaks. It seemed like breathe of fresh air as far as truth-telling media was concerned. I gravitated toward Wikileaks because of all the backlash it was receiving from governments, mainstream media, and other important entities. I wanted to know more what the government was up to in regard to other countries' affairs and the wars which our media seems to give us little information about. There's always been a lot of conspiracy theories about what the U.S. government have been doing around the globe, but this was the first time there was actual evidence and records of them initializing the acts. When Wikileaks appeared it shed lights into some of the most secretive documents or events which has affected our society. Even though Wikileaks was soon censored but I had seen enough documents that my local news broadcast would have never told me.

Wikileaks is an independent information source which gathers top secret news around the world and publishes them to the public without any hesitation. The company is self funded and does not have a parent company to restrain what they are putting out there. They are still a website in which people have to go in directly to see the documents, and does not have the means to broadcast on television or radio or internet television. Their Informations were passed on to a bigger media which broadcasts it to the world. Their first series of informations were published on Britain's fame newspaper the Guardian. Then when things got hot they were dropped by the Guardian, and from there they moved from one publication to the other. They are like a soul looking for body to live in, even their server belong to somebody else. At the beginning it was Amazon, now they are being hosted temporarily in a swedish server. The fact that what they are doing is so extreme nobody wants to stand next to them or even associated with their name. Being that I used Wikipedia for everything, I thought this was a relative branch of the company--which i came to find out was not true. Even to this day Wikipedia makes it clear that they are not in affiliation with Wikileaks in any forms.

The way Wikileaks operates is also extreme. For one they don't have a permanent office or country. Second they do not give any compensation to their employers. And last the people who give them the informations have to be anonymous. They use a system called Dropbox, in which the wistleblowers give them documents without even identifying them so their identity remain hidden from public or government backlash. Being that they are a non paying job, they are survived by people who volunteered themselves to work in secret for the company.

The only public figure that Wikileaks have is an Australian activist named Julian Assange. It said that he is the heartbeat of this news source; not only did he founded the company, he's a writer, editor, director, publisher, spokesperson and more. So far he is the one who has received all the backlash from various government heads. The moment Wikileaks was making the headlines Assange was making it as well. We discovered that he had sexual allegations pending against him. No sooner he was emprisonned in Sweden, then released and now he is taking refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. Assange seemed to touch a lot of nerves when most of the major governments of the world either wants him dead or emprisonned. If this had happened three or four decades earlier he would have been dead.

Even tough Wikileaks publications has been extremely dangerous, but it has helpful and important to the public to know the truth about what these politicians are up to. The backlashes that Assange received were meant for the whistleblowers, since they are not revealed he is being used as sacrificial lamb. Nevertheless wiki leaks still continues, now there even more websites like it that are doing similar works.
