Media Outles ; Time For a Change
A great percentage of media outlets are owned and controlled by one specific person, for example Disney owning many of the media outlets. What does this mean for viewers? Well, if one company owns various media outlets, then the media we take in, is very similar. We are hearing the same "news", are being forced to believe the same "truths" because there is one person controlling what is being delivered to the consumers. By only having "easy" access to limited news, is that a problem? Of course.
The problem stems from many issues and not just one. Its easy to just blame Disney for owning so many media outlets, but if no one is putting a limit to what they can own, then why not continue to build the empire. Or is it easier for people to blame the chairman of the Federal Communications Commissions?
We can argue that the reason we are delivered the same point of views and news is because we have very few media outlets to choose from, it can be because of the few media outlets we do have to choose from are predominantly male owned, and has a very small percentage of minorities, who have a significant say in what delivered to the public. Studies show that with media outlets becoming a monopoly we are losing voices, it's just becoming one voice. With the lack of minorities we are losing the essence of diversity of news. Not only would diversity of minorities in the media give us more voices, but it would reach out to a broader audience helping with many significant things such as voting, politics, sale, television ratings, etc.
People know there are other news outlets, and media outlets but its not easy to access or its too complicate to comprehend, or the volume in which it is delivered is not easy to access. This is the reason why alternative media outlets are not as successful or known. They don't have enough supporters to compete with the bigger companies, which makes it also hard for them to compete financially with them as well. Although the supporters they do have are faithful and stand behind what they represent. Smaller and independent media outlets are known for telling the real version of the truth. It is easier for them to do so because since they are not a big commodity they get less backlash and because they don't have to follow certain guidelines, which gives there more lead way to have a voice.
A independent media outlet that delivers the truth in news is "Sleuth Journal" it prides itself in delivering news that is not bias and not monitored in any way to benefit anyone. It is strictly just delivering news. The Sleuth Journal is an independent alternative media organization comprised of individuals and groups working to expose true news and corruption worldwide.
"We shed the light on truth in government, politics, world and local news, civil rights, natural health & organics and other important topics that the mainstream media fails or refuses to expose. This information is being presented to you in an effort for advancement in the understanding of our economic and political corruption, natural health, our Nation and World’s true news, social justice, human rights and environmental issues. It is our intent to connect, educate, motivate and inspire those who are interested in alerting the public to the pertinent issues that are affecting our lives and future, each and every day.We are a community of truth-seekers and peacemakers who share a commitment to nonviolent action and resistance- to push back against those who wish to suppress and control our lives, and take away our freedoms and civil rights. We bring you real news from around the world, without the synthetics. Together in sharing the truth, we can challenge the abuses of the establishment. " (About the Sleuth Journal) The owner is Wendy Blanks who is also an owner of other companies including a production company. She's a female who is not only making voice for females but for minorities as well. Her production of sleuth journal represents a significant variation of voices.
What's next? now that we know there are alternative media and that there our main source of news are delivering the same news, What do we do? we need to put more pressure on having females and minorities represented. The new chairman of FCC says he will put in rules and regulations that will control ownership, promote diversity in media, and make room for minorities. One rule he wishes to immediately enforce is ownership of radio and television under the same owner.
