Semester Project

My project is a parody of the common advertisements we see in the media these days. The video is an advertisement for “Aphrodisiac Mac Attack” cologne, that suggests its odour will help consumers attract woman. Although the claim is false, the product is still advertised explicitly as a tool for men to attract woman. What inspired me to make this video is the fact that so many advertisers use this extremely easy tactic to market their products. The way I exaggerate everything in the video is to poke fun at these kind of advertisements but is also meant to expose how stupid and easy they are to make. At the end of the video I offer a punch line that critiques these kinds of ads. What I plan to do with the video is add it to a YouTube channel that I will continue to offer commentary and parody style videos on. With more time to work on the videos and create ideas, I hope that the channel will eventually create a following and expose viewers to my messages. I do not want the YouTube channel to only serve media consumers as a form of entertainment. I believe the advertisements that follow the patriarchal format today, pose it in a way that manipulates the viewer into believing the advertisements message is true and has value. So the exaggerated parody's I will be making will explicitly reveal to the viewers that this type of thinking has no value to our society, and only hurts our intelligence. These types of advertisements and media do not belong in the main stream media as tools for capitalism. Making fun of this kind of media and explicitly revealing its ignorance may open the eyes of those who have fallen for their manipulation.
