I am going to make a video about what people generally think defines who
they are as a person. My research will be collected through other articles
scholars have written about identity and traditional psychology ideas. I will also
conduct interviews on my own to collect more data. I want to capture several
different perceptions of what people think defines who a person actually is. I
plan to get interviews of people of many different races, ages, social classes,
etc. Through editing I want to juxtapose their interview responses with a more
creative aspect of the video. The video will open cinematically with a person
saying “How can I be me, when everything that I see, the whole world around me,
is telling me who to be.” Then I will also use editing to show the person
standing in a room with their outfit and accessories constantly changing to
represent different styles and personas in our society. That will play out
while constantly cutting to interview responses throughout the video and will
also have instrumental music playing in the background to drive the emotions of
the viewer. My message will be that people are defined by their own personal
experiences and environment that influences who they become. I also want to
show that people have different perceptions of what makes a man or what makes a
woman and how their views are influenced by the imagery in our culture. My
interest in the topic is driven by the common idea that how we look determines
who we are. I want to find out if that’s really what the majority of people
think, or if other factors take part in the perception of an identity. The
target audience for my video is anyone and everyone. We are all a part of this
society and have ideas about identity. I want to make this video to critique
the common perceptions of identity and to educate those who have specific ideas
about the topic to open their minds.

Seeing how your name is influential in part of your identity would be interesting to look into, since we are in the age of apple, pilot inspector, Blue Ivy, etc...Is it a nod towards the parents self identification or are they shaping their children at birth?
