Hip Hop music influences females images in various way.
Throughout my project I want to filter through different hip hop songs and videos that target females and how they are represented. I want to use a short documentary showing how hip hop music has targeted females images and how it has changed. I took a interest in the topic because, I'm a music junkie and I've realized as the times change the way hip hop music depicts women have changed over the years, women are seen and shown in videos in a different light. I personally feel like hip hop is starting to respect women. Especially with the rise of female rapper Nicki Minaj. She is giving women a voice and the respect they deserve.
Also there are rappers like Wale, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Common, Nas who inspire women to do better and feel better about themselves. They show other rappers that it's okay to inspire women and that if they do there song will still succeed. Like Wale song "Ambitious Girl"
I will use a short documentary that will include clips from different hip hop music videos over the span of the last one to two decades (the exact time frame is not yet confirmed), It will also include Q&A about how hip hop music has influenced women images and the opinions, and answers to the questions I will ask will come from a range of people. The audience I'll try to reach is teens to young adults, individuals who tend to watch more television, and who are able to form a stronger opinion on the topic
There is a PBS story on Christian Hip Hop and Rap and it's emerging popularity, it may be more preachy but worth a look as an alternative music.
