Power is the ability to do, act or accomplish something. Hegemony is the leadership or predominant influence exercised by one over others. If you have power, you have the ability to control or influence those with lesser or no power. The amount of resources or strength you possess may determine your power.
In “The Era of Crowds” they describe power with the strength of numbers, and how the power of the crowd, is what creates revolution in societies. If you have the power you can control and manipulate the crowd to do your bidding. Once you lose control of the crowd, the large numbers of a crowd could easily over power you.

Popular Culture is the entirety of ideas, perspectives, attitudes, memes, images and other phenomena that are within the mainstream of a given culture. Today popular culture is viewed as the music we listen to on the radio and Hollywood movies/shows we watch on televisions and computers. It’s the theme of the media that is the most popular at the moment. In Barbara Kruger’s “Remote Control” she compares popular culture to art saying that art does the same thing as popular culture. Art is a large part of a societies culture so popular culture could even be defined as the popular art of a certain culture.
A spectacle is something memorable for the appearance it creates. Representation is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way, or as being of a certain nature. Representation is effected by perception. Some may perceive a spectacle as representing one object while someone else perceives it differently.

Like in Lucy Lippard’s “Double Take” what the photo discussed in the reading represents is seen differently by each person who see’s the photograph. One person can see it one way while another person’s analyses suggest it represents something else. An example would be the growing popularity of the hipster style. Some would view this as a spectacle of a bunch of teenagers copying one another, while others would view it as the recycling of a “retro” style from the past.
Sexism is discrimination or devaluation based on someone’s gender. The gaze is to look steadily and intently as with great curiosity, interest or pleasure. In popular culture the image of the female is often represented as an object rather than a person. An object is anything visible or tangible that is relatively stable in form. They portray woman as a tangible object that men can long for through the gaze. Rather than portraying woman as normal people, the media often turns them into a sex symbol. The same can also be applied for men. The representation of men or woman as objects is expressing sexism by devaluing the human being for who he or she is in a way that entertains popular culture.
Pedagogy is the art and science of teaching. The media has taught our society by manipulating our gaze, providing a spectacle we long to consume. Consumption is the using up of goods or a service that have an exchangeable value. A consumer is someone or something that uses a commodity or service. The media manipulates the gaze of consumers and tells them what they want by presenting objects that represent pleasure and interest.
